Personal Health Budget Support

Our friendly team of Independent Living Advisers (ILAs) provide information, advice and help with using NHS funded Personal Health Budgets to promote independent living.

They have extensive experience in administering these Budgets and so can help you with a wide range of queries.

[it has made a] huge difference psychologically having a sensible and reliable point of contact.
There is nothing to improve. The service is unique and works well for children and families in need of support.

What are Personal Health Budgets?

They are cash payments made to individuals by their Clinical Commissioning Group to allow people to manage their ‘continuing health care’ or long-term health condition. They give people greater independence by enabling them to have control over the support they receive.

How can SILC help me with my Personal Health Budget?

If you are granted a Personal Health Budget, we can help you with the following:

  • Discussing Personal Health Budgets in more detail: what they can be used for, and how they are best managed,
  • Setting up and managing your Direct Payment, including making sure that you understand fully what responsibilities are involved,
  • Recruiting and employing a Personal Assistant (PA), including in areas such as training, payroll and pension schemes,
  • Completing DBS and reference checks for your PA, and
  • Providing a Supported Managed Account, whereby we hold your budget and make the necessary payments for you, including completing the reconciliations on your behalf.

How do I access SILC's support?

When you are granted a Personal Health Budget, you will be referred to SILC for free support. If you aren’t, you can contact us directly and we will ensure the referral is made.

Once you have been referred, we will discuss with you exactly what support you need. You will be in full control of your Personal Health Budget and how it is ultimately used.
